Video Compressor
Video Compressor is a free online tool that shrinks MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM, FLV, WMV, and other common video formats into smaller MP4 files by adjusting compression quality and output resolution — handy for sharing, uploading, and archiving.
Everything runs locally in your browser with FFmpeg.wasm, so your videos are never uploaded to any server. Because compression depends on your device's performance, very large files are not recommended.
How to Use
- Drop or choose a video file, up to 500 MB
- Pick a compression quality: light, standard, or extreme
- Optionally lower the output resolution to shrink the file even further
- Start compression — transcoding happens locally in your browser
- Compare the before/after sizes, preview, and download the compressed MP4
FAQ
Are my videos uploaded to a server?
No. Reading, transcoding, and result generation all happen locally in your browser via FFmpeg.wasm — nothing is sent over the network.
Why are very large videos not recommended?
Compression relies entirely on your device's CPU and memory. Larger files take much longer, may freeze the tab, and can fail when memory runs out. We suggest keeping each video under 500 MB.
How much quality will I lose?
Light compression is nearly indistinguishable from the original; standard balances quality and size; extreme produces the smallest file with visible quality loss. Lowering the resolution reduces size even further.
Why is my compressed file larger than the original?
If the source video already has a very low bitrate or is heavily compressed, re-encoding at the chosen quality can produce a larger file. In that case, try a stronger compression level or a lower resolution.
What format is the output?
Always MP4 (H.264 video + AAC audio), which plays on virtually any phone, computer, or platform.
