Video to GIF Converter
Video to GIF Converter is a free online tool that turns up to 15 seconds of MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, and other common video formats into animated GIFs, with a custom frame rate (10–25fps), output width (320–854px), and color quality.
Conversion uses a two-pass palette pipeline — first analyzing the frames to build an optimal palette, then dithering against it — so colors look noticeably smoother than single-pass converters. Everything runs locally in your browser with FFmpeg.wasm, and videos are never uploaded to any server.
How to Use
- Upload a video up to 15 seconds long and 300 MB in size
- Pick a frame rate, output width, and color quality
- Start the conversion and wait for the two local passes to finish
- Preview the animated GIF
- Download the GIF file
FAQ
Are my videos uploaded to a server?
No. Reading, GIF conversion, and result generation all happen locally in your browser via FFmpeg.wasm — nothing is sent over the network.
Why the 15-second limit?
GIF stores every frame uncompressed, so file size grows fast — a 15-second, 480px, 15fps GIF is often tens of megabytes. The 15-second cap keeps conversion fast and the result usable.
My video is longer than 15 seconds. What can I do?
Trim the part you need with our Video Trimmer tool first, then come back and convert the clip to GIF.
What does the quality option change?
It sets the number of colors in the GIF palette (64/128/256). More colors mean smoother gradients but larger files; fewer colors shrink the file but may show banding.
Does the GIF have sound?
No. GIF is a pure image format, so the audio track is discarded during conversion.
